As a Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial information, including:
- Processing purchase and sales ledgers
- Managing bank reconciliations on a regular basis
- Preparing and posting journals
- Assisting with VAT returns and compliance reporting
- Supporting month-end and year-end processes
- Handling supplier payments and reconciling accounts
- Dealing with finance queries in a timely and professional manner
We are looking for an experienced bookkeeper with:
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping or finance support role, ideally within professional services
- Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Good knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks or similar
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confident communication skills and a proactive approach

Senior Accountant
London | Hybrid | Salary: £50,000 – £65,000 (dependent on experience)
Sheridan Maine is recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly regarded London-based accountancy practice seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Accountant. This Senior Accountant opportunity is ideal for a motivated professional looking to develop their career within a reputable firm offering long-term stability and excellent exposure across accounting and finance jobs London.
The Role
This is a broad and varied position, suited to an all-rounder with experience across accounts preparation and client services. The role is split approximately 70% accounts and business services, and 30% audit. It would particularly suit someone currently in an Accountant role who is seeking a step up into a more senior, client-facing position within a leading London accountancy practice.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparation of statutory accounts for a varied portfolio of clients
- Production of management accounts
- Maintaining and overseeing client bookkeeping records
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Supporting payroll processes
- Assisting with audit assignments
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients, providing ongoing support and advice
The role offers regular interaction with senior leadership, providing valuable exposure to client relationship management and business decision-making. Candidate Requirements
- ACA / ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
- Approximately 5+ years’ post-qualified experience within practice
- Strong experience in accounts preparation and client services
- Experience across multiple areas including VAT and audit
Qualified by Experience (QBE) candidates with significant relevant experience (circa 15+ years) will also be considered.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional with experience in accounts and tax to join a supportive and forward-thinking environment, providing high-quality service to a diverse client portfolio.
As a Semi-Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for managing client relationships and supporting the delivery of accounting and tax services, including:
- Handling client queries relating to accounts and tax matters
- Preparing accounts up to trial balance stage for review and finalisation
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships
- Liaising with HMRC where required to resolve account queries or discrepancies
- Reviewing and ensuring completeness of client financial data
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
In addition, and with full training provided where required, you may also be involved in:
- Self-assessment tax returns
- Corporate tax return preparation
- Payroll and CIS processing
- Supporting accounts finalisation work
- Identifying client needs and referring them to specialist teams where appropriate
- Attending client review meetings
The successful candidate will have:
- At least 2 years’ experience in an accounts or finance role
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and current tax legislation
- Excellent communication and client relationship skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Ability to communicate in Romanian and English
- A proactive and professional approach to client service
Knowledge of areas such as VAT, management accounts, and general tax compliance would be highly beneficial.
