We've spent years talking about flexible working as a candidate benefit. Our findings suggest it may actually have something approaching a monetary value. 59% would probably or definitely consider accepting a slightly lower rate for significantly better flexibility.

This doesn't mean employers can lop £100 off the day rate and triumphantly announce that everyone's allowed home on Friday. Nice try. Good temps, contractors and interims still expect to be paid appropriately for their skills and experience. What it demonstrates is that candidates evaluate the whole assignment, not simply the rate.

If two organisations offer comparable work and broadly similar rates but one requires five days of commuting while the other offers sensible hybrid working, don't assume the higher rate will automatically win.
