"If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Isaac Newton. Our client in Birmingham is actively seeking a permanent Assistant Accountant (VAT) to join their team. This presents a great opportunity for a Part Qualified Accountant (or QBE) to join an organisation that offers a number of benefits, including study support.
The role is primarily remote, but candidates must reside near the NEC.
Responsibilities of the Assistant Accountant (VAT) will include, but will not be limited to:
Prepare and file UK VAT returns and coordinate with international firms for overseas VAT returns
Handle basic VAT queries
Support the manager with lease accounting
Address queries and data requests from internal and external audits and tax departments
Perform month-end close tasks, including preparing and entering journals and balance sheet reconciliations
Provide analysis and documentation for the parent company
Cover for the manager and other assistant accountants during absences
Engage in continuous improvement, updating SOPs and process notes, and sharing best practices
Perform various other ad-hoc accounting duties as needed
The successful Assistant Accountant (VAT) will require the following skills and experience:
Part-Qualified and actively pursuing ICAEW, CIMA, or ACCA certification
Must possess experience and knowledge of VAT
Experience in various finance department tasks
Proficient in computer skills, especially Excel
Familiarity with SAGE X3 is desirable
