Sheridan Maine is partnering with an organisation based in Malmesbury to hire an Assistant Accountant for their team. The preferred candidate should either possess AAT qualification or be interested in starting/advancing their professional accounting qualifications, along with experience in both transactional and management accounting responsibilities.
 
The main objective of this role is to assist in fundamental accounting tasks, such as bookkeeping and management accounting and reporting, to support the Finance Manager and other senior finance team members.

Your responsibilities as the Assistant Accountant will include:
 

  • Preparing and posting monthly accounting entries, encompassing prepayments and accruals
  • Managing the fixed asset register, ensuring proper authorisation and accurate coding for all transactions
  • Handling internal billing and recharges, including invoice generation and crafting letters of engagement
  • Safeguarding the accuracy of financial figures through the preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and other month-end schedules
  • Assisting in the monthly group intercompany process
  • Compiling VAT returns with necessary supporting analysis, preparing account analyses to facilitate Corporation tax returns
  • Crafting monthly management accounts in adherence to established policies and procedures, complete with commentary and analysis against budget for specific smaller entities
  • Preparing statutory financial statements for designated smaller entities
  • Assisting in the preparation of budget and cashflow forecast information as needed
  • Providing support to the Finance Manager and other senior finance personnel in various ad hoc tasks as required
 
The successful Assistant Accountant will require the following skills and experience:
 
  • AAT-qualified, pursuing additional professional qualifications
  • Prior experience as an assistant accountant or in a similar role
  • Committed to meeting tight reporting deadlines
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel; ERP system experience is a plus
  • Confident communicator
  • Takes ownership of tasks, works autonomously with strong teamwork skills
  • Demonstrates discretion and values confidentiality
  • Proactively suggests improvements
  • Open and adaptable to organisational changes
 
The successful candidate will be required to be in the office 5 days week.
