Sheridan Maine are working in partnership with our client, a highly considered and innovative organisation, to secure a Finance Manager for a 12 month Fixed Term Contract from their Head Office, on the edge of the New Forest in Dorset. 

Reporting into the Head of Finance and CFO, this role will support the wider finance team with the monthly management accounting process, annual budgeting, and forecasting, helping to control expenditure and reporting against budgets, elements of financial control and other ad-hoc tasks as required. Whilst there is no direct line management responsibility in this role, we are seeking an experienced senior finance professional who is confident to provide coaching and support to a large Finance team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting with the period-end process, which culminates in the production of the management accounts. The process involves helping to ensure that the team’s deadlines are met, with all necessary journals posted and all contributions to the management accounts delivered on time
  • Working closely with the CFO, Head of Finance and Head of Commercial Finance to support with preparation of the annual budget and regular forecasts
  • Various month-end responsibilities including the preparation and posting of journals and producing balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting with maintaining balance sheet controls and with the controls around cash and accounts payable procedures
Required skills and experience:
  • To be successful in this role you will need to have exceptional organisational skills, excellent attention to detail as well as being able to manage work to multiple deadlines
  • A relevant accounting qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
  • You will need to have strong written and verbal communication skills and a very proactive approach to work, taking full accountability for outputs
  • A committed team player, you will be able to work independently whilst remaining aware of the wider objectives of the team
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel skills. The role involves working with large Excel models, inter-linked workbooks, various formulae (e.g.SUMIFS, VLOOKUP) and using Excel to produce presentation-style outputs
  • A strong understanding of accounting principles under FRS102
  • Experience of operating in a multi-site business and a medium/large organisation
  • Experience of period-end close processes and preparing management accounts for submission to the Board as well as preparing annual budgets and forecasts
