Financial Controller (Maternity cover) £48,127 per annum Full-time, 40 hours per week Maternity cover contract for 14 months Hybrid working (on site 1 -2 days per week).

An exciting opportunity with a central London based historic establishment has arisen for a senior finance professional to join as Financial Controller on a maternity cover basis.  The post holder will manage the day-to-day finance operations, tax compliance and co-ordinate all aspects of year-end, from liaising with the auditors to the creation of the statutory accounts and play a pivotal role in the management of financial systems.
 
Responsibilities of the Financial Controller will include but not limited to:

  • Supervising the maintenance of financial ledgers and accounting processes
  • Ensuring that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained
  • Coordinating the year-end process including statutory accounts and external audit, including completion of the statutory accounts
  • Compliance with tax legislation and liaising with tax consultants and HMRC
  • Supervising of accounts payable and receivable
  • Maintaining asset registers
  • Involvement in projects when required
  • Posting quarterly investment movements
  • Overseeing the financial systems, ensuring they are effective for the requirements of the finance department and the wider organisation
  • Identifying, planning and implementing improvements to systems
  • Attending and presenting to the Audit and Risk sub-committee
  • Meeting with key stakeholders and communicating financial and non-financial information
  • Line management, coaching and mentoring for four direct reports
 
The successful Financial Controller will require the following skills and experience:
  • A relevant degree or professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Very confident working in Excel
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly
  • Comfortable with researching accounting policy decisions
  • Knowledge of Charity Accounting standards – SORP
  • Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail
 
This position will suit someone with practice/ audit experience or someone who has previously worked in a small charity.
